This is an introductory class appropriate for students of all backgr ounds and experiences.
\nIn this class basic mark making skills as w ell as the techniques and processes of an etching press will be taught. Pa rticipants will use traditional etching grounds and resists to etch copper plates in a Ferric Chloride solution. Stage biting and resistance techniq ues will be discussed to provide an insight to good working habits.
\n< p>We will also cover ink mixing\, application\, plate preparation\, wiping \, as well as paper tearing and registration. Student’s particular interes ts will determine the direction of the demonstrations\, and there will be time for each participant to work on individual projects. This class will run over three weeks\, participants must attend all four meetings to be si gned off to print in the shop.\nSupplies to bring to the fi

Jesen Tanadi gra duated from RISD with a degree in architecture\, although he has traded hi s love for architecture for a new love in printmaking since then. While he wouldn’t call himself an architect (besides for legal reasons)\, he is st ill interested in alternative practices within the field. Among many thing s\, he is a designer\, printmaker\, and self-proclaimed curator of The Dra ftery\, a digital archive and publication.

\nThe AS220 Community Printshop is located at the Merc
antile at 131 Washington Street PROVIDENCE RI\, 1st floor. The shop’s entr
ance is located at the back of the building on Martha Street\; the shop’s
double doors are at the Northwest corner of the building. There is 2 hour
metered on street parking available\, bring your quarters. We are also loc
ated near a parking garage with entry on Washington Street\, look for the
big blue parking sign.
Important Class Policies\nPlease be as respectful of the short time you and the other particip
ants have to learn and be as on time as possible. If you arrive more than
half an hour late we will not be able to teach you what you signed up for.
Please plan ahead\, it always takes time to find on street parking.

CANCELLATION OF CLASSES
\nIf minimum number is not met in class enrollment\, the teach
er may opt to cancel class. If this is the case\, we will give a full refu
nd of class payment and first choice to enroll in future classes. We will
attempt to give as much notice as possible.
